Life at Leichhardt House

So, what's life like at Leichhardt House?

At Leichhardt House Student Residence, we’re here for more than just meals and a place to sleep — we’re here to support students as they grow, learn, and take on new challenges during their high school years.

With an education-first focus, we provide the structure, and routine students need to succeed academically — and just as importantly, the freedom and encouragement to explore life outside the classroom. We’ve designed our routines, spaces, and support systems to help students feel settled, organised, and at ease — whether it’s their first term away from home or they’re well into their senior years.  From after-school sport and music lessons to downtime and everyday friendships, life at Leichhardt House is designed to feel safe, balanced, and full of opportunity.

Here’s how it all works day to day:

Rooms

Room layouts are assigned with age and year level in mind.

Senior Girls (Years 10-12). Each room accommodates up to 2 boarders, rooms are split into 2 sections, each section has 1 bed.

Calendar and clock for routines

Daily Routines

Our set wake-up and wind-down times help students maintain a consistent sleep schedule and start each day prepared.

Study sessions. Dedicated study times give students the space and support to stay on top of their schoolwork.

Personal time & activities. Students can take part in sport, music, dance, and other extra-curricular activities, or a part-time job if suited.

See schedule in our Boarding Handbook (appendix 2 on page 24.)

Local sporting club Chinchilla Bears

Extra-Curricular

Student interests are encouraged. Many of our students take part in sports training, music, dance, and other creative pursuits. We actively support boarders who want to explore their interests.

Flexible scheduling. Our routine allows students the time and transport to attend local training rehearsals, competitions, or community activities.

We believe education goes beyond the classroom — and that participation in activities helps students develop life skills, friendships, and independence.

Lecihhardt House mini-bus

Transport

Our residence mini-bus is available to take students to and from both Chinchilla State High School and Chinchilla Christian College when needed.

We also use the mini-bus to transport students to early morning or after-hours commitments like sport training, music, part-time jobs, or other activities.

While we encourage independence, we also make sure students have access to safe and practical transport options to support their busy routines.

Laptops, iphones, headphones

Technology & Devices

Boarders are welcome to bring their mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and handheld gaming devices.

Healthy tech habits. To support focused study and good sleep routines, all devices are handed in during set study times and again at bedtime.

Balance is key. Our approach encourages connection and independence, while helping students develop healthy tech habits that support their learning and wellbeing.
