Start by contacting our friendly House Managers, Bev & Mal, to have a chat about your family’s needs. They’ll answer your questions and help you understand how life at Leichhardt House works. Obtain a boarding enrolment pack to proceed.

Step 2. Submit the Enrolment Application
Complete the Boarding Enrolment Package and return it to the House Managers. All applications for enrolment in the following year must be received by 30 September. All required paperwork must be completed fully and accurately and signed by all relevant parties. Incomplete or incorrectly completed applications will not progress until all required information, signatures or corrections have been provided.
Step 3. Application Review
Completed applications will be reviewed to determine which applicants will progress to the interview stage. While the 30 September closing date applies to applications for the following year, early applications may be reviewed and considered for interview and approval prior to this date at the discretion of Leichhardt House. Applicants are therefore encouraged to submit their application as early as possible. Should you have exceptional circumstances and are applying after 30 September for the following year – the application will be considered at the House Parents discretion. Submission of an application does not guarantee an interview, approval or an offer of a boarding placement.
Step 4. House Tour and Interview
Applicants who progress to the next stage will be invited to attend a tour of Leichhardt House and an interview with the House Parents. The prospective student and all parents and guardians listed on the enrolment application are required to attend the interview and house tour. The interview provides an opportunity to discuss the student’s individual needs and suitability for boarding, as well as the expectations, responsibilities and communication requirements of students, parents and guardians while part of the Leichhardt House community.
Step 5. Committee Consideration and Approval
Following completion of the interview and house tour, the application will be forwarded to the Committee for consideration and final approval. The Committee will consider the application, information provided during the enrolment process, and the overall suitability of the student and family for the Leichhardt House boarding environment.
Step 6. Offer of Placement
Successful applicants will be formally offered a boarding placement following Committee approval. Once an offer has been made, a $100 non-refundable placement fee is payable to secure and hold the student’s place. A boarding placement is not considered secured until the $100 placement fee has been received.

PARENT & GUARDIAN PARTNERSHIP
Boarding at Leichhardt House is a partnership between the student, their parents/guardians and the House Parents. While the student is the resident, parents and guardians are an important part of the boarding experience and have responsibilities and expectations that form part of their child’s placement. Parents and guardians are expected to remain actively involved in their child’s boarding arrangements, maintain open, respectful and timely communication with the House Parents, provide required information and permissions, support the routines and expectations of the residence, and ensure they understand and comply with Leichhardt House policies and procedures.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Boarding placements at Leichhardt House are not offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications are assessed individually to ensure the suitability of the placement and the safe, respectful and smooth operation of the Hostel. All enrolments are subject to approval by the Chinchilla Student Accommodation Association Inc. (CSAA) Committee. The Hostel reserves the right to prioritize enrolments based on capacity and student needs. Families will receive all necessary information about fees, policies, and boarding agreements upon acceptance.
Families are responsible for determining whether they are eligible for the Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Scheme or any other government assistance that may contribute towards boarding fees. Families should make their own enquiries and complete any required applications directly with the relevant government agency. Eligibility for government assistance is not determined by Leichhardt House Student Residence or the Chinchilla Student Accommodation Association Inc.
Where a family is not eligible for assistance, does not apply, or receives an amount that does not cover the full boarding fees, the parent/guardian remains fully responsible for payment of all fees and charges associated with the student’s placement at Leichhardt House. Leichhardt House is committed to working with families to support the wellbeing and success of every boarder.

Getting to School & Activities
We transport students to before and after-school activities, like sport, music and jobs— and provide shuttle support for both Chinchilla State High School and Chinchilla Christian College.
Boarding Options
Leichhardt House offers full-time boarding (Monday to Friday – 4 nights/week) as well as casual flexible overnight stays when needed - you'll need to book in advance.
