Financial Assistance for Rural Families

If you live in a rural or remote area, you may be eligible for government financial assistance to help cover the cost of boarding at Leichhardt House Student Residence. The Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Scheme provides funding for eligible families — and in many cases, it can cover the cost of boarding fees.

Why weekday boarding works for rural families

Full-time boarding away from home doesn’t suit every child. Many students thrive with a Monday-to-Friday boarding option because it offers:

  • A structured and supportive learning environment during the week
  • Opportunities for sport, music, and extracurricular activities in Chinchilla
  • The comfort of going home to family every weekend

This balance helps students grow in independence while staying connected to home life.

Who is Eligible?

You may qualify for the AIC Scheme if you:

  • Live a certain distance from your nearest local school
  • Or live more than 4.5km from the nearest school bus service

Eligibility depends on your personal circumstances, including where you live and which school your child attends.
